On December 5th, 2025, the VR Group won the Best Paper Honorable Mention Award at ICAT-EGVE 2025 with the paper “SCENTAUR – An Encountered-Type Olfactory Display for Large-Scale Smell Interaction in Virtual Reality”
This work explores how we can bring the sense of smell into immersive VR experiences without relying on bulky wearables or fixed scent emitters. SCENTAUR is an Encountered-Type Olfactory Display mounted on a mobile robot, enabling users to walk freely in virtual environments while experiencing spatially dynamic scents.
We’re excited about how this approach can open new possibilities for spatial interaction, multisensory immersion, and multi-user olfactory interaction.
