Abstract
EditorialSpecial issue on computer analysis of images and patternsThis special issue comprises twelve recent and relevant worksin different aspects of the computer analysis of images and pat-terns. We cover here the important topics like human walkingmovement, analysis of biomedical images, automatic visual surfaceinspection, object segmentation, natural computing, 3D mobileinteraction, vision-based driver assistance, face recognition, topo-logical pattern recognition and estimation of shapes. All the papersincluded in this SI have been selected via the standard reviewingprocess of the journal ''Pattern Recognition Letters''. They are ex-tended versions of the best contributions accepted in the interna-tional conference CAIP2011 held from 29 up to 31 August 2011in Seville (Spain).A brief outline highlights the main achievements for each of thepapers included in the SI. We grouped these papers into fourgroups. Three of them include papers based on methodologicalsimilarities and the last one includes papers dealing with sixdifferent applications.
