Description
Design and prototype a ring that provides AR control via a tiny touch/scroll surface and tap/double-tap gestures.
The ring streams input to the Snap Spectacles, mapping gestures to common tasks (e.g., scrubbing a clipping plane, scaling/rotating an object, timeline seek, menu navigation).
Tasks
- Conduct a comprehensive review of the state of the art in ring-based interaction for AR.
- Manufacture a piece of hardware that can register tap/slide input in the format of a ring (or ring-like).
- Implement a control interface within Lens Studio.
- Design and conduct a user study to evaluate the effectiveness and user perception of ring-based interactions compared to gestures (pinching).
This topic’s tasks can be combined for a PR, a BA or for a MA.
Requirements
- English (source code, comments, and final report should be in English)
- Lens Studio experience – preferable, but not mandatory
- Experience with Arduino or similar boards – preferable, but not mandatory
- Interest in experimenting with hardware for a unique AR experience
